THE HEART OF THE SALVATION ARMY IN LOUISVILLE

The Corps Community Centers are the focus of the spiritual work and are organized in a military
manner. Each Corps Community Center or “neighborhood church” has a Christian congregation
made up of members who accept the Army’s articles of faith and principles of living. They
are called “soldiers.” Members attend worship services and find spiritual guidance from The
Salvation Army officers who are ordained ministers and the pastors.

SERVICES FLOW TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD FROM THE SALVATION ARMY CORPS:

The Corps buildings in Louisville serve not only as churches, but as community centers, meeting
halls and even service offices. Many who use its services are not Salvationists. Among those
who make frequent visits to the Corps centers include: people in crisis, teenagers, families
needing a safe place for recreation and seniors who no longer feel a purpose.

The Salvation Army believes in serving God by serving people. Through a combined ministry
of social service work, educational training, fellowship, religious programs and recreational
activities, individuals are brought to a closer relationship with God.
